I am fascinated by the union of high and low art. This is an imaginary collab between Nike and Balenciaga. It is a 90s running shoe that was dug out of an asteroid in space and left to circle the earth for 20 years before an astronaut snagged it on a spacewalk. It references the garbage collages of German dada artist Kurt Schwitters but instead of synthesizing bits of paper refuse I use thrift-store shoe parts as my medium. I paint these from scratch with photoshop and an airbrush. I’t not even sure how shoes are designed in 2021 but I bet it involves 3d models. I make the 3-d model in the video card in my head – then I use my hand to paint it. It only looks realistic because I am really good at painting with an airbrush.
I am an artist who aims to capture the whimsical, mass produced, slightly sinister, gimmicky, derivative, transient nature of modern life. email@example.com
