Sid Vicious was the embodiment of punk rock. He flamed out at a very early age after he overdosed on heroin a few days after killing his girlfriend Nancy with a knife. His band the Sex Pistols had only one album before they dissolved. But their influence on popular culture was massive. Their infamous manager Malcolm McLaren gets the credit for creating the Sex Pistols and using them to sell clothes and touch a nerve in British culture at a time when people were disillusioned with the music industry and Western society as a whole. Punk was rebelling against the counter culture movement brought about by hippies and flower children – they saw it as artificially happy and fake at a time when the youth in England were out of work and angry.
