From time to time I find myself living in Walmart parking lot. It is a noisy, hot, crowded and busy place. You can be awakened by leaf blowers, the clanging of shopping carts, an occasional shouting match over drugs, errant car alarms and the sound of mechanized garbage trucks. For the most part Walmart is a great place staffed by nice people doing hard work for low wages. As the seasons change and it gets warmer in Georgia it is going to become impossible to do this.
I like Ed’s music. His new album Divide is really good. It is amazing how many hit songs he has written in his short career. He is great at performing too – he is a throwback to the 60s when music was high art and pop acts were good at every facet of making music.
If you want to understand postmodernism – you need to start with this guy. Jaques Derrida was a French philosopher best known for developing a form of semiotic analysis known as deconstruction which he developed within the philosophy of Phenomenology. He is one of the major figures associated with post-structuralism and postmodern philosophy. He actually decoupled words from their meaning. He is the grandfather of the chaos that has devoured modern western thought, literature and art.
One of my favorite mascots in pop culture is Bobs Big Boy. He is fat and happy and he succinctly represents the essence of what it means to be American. His best feature is the big 50s swoosh of hair on top of his head.
I am excited to see what the Dawgs do under Smart’s leadership. He was a great player and he had a bunch of success coaching for Nick Saban. I hope he can do the same thing in Athens that he did in Tuscaloosa. He has some big shoes to fill. When the guy before you got fired for winning 10 games in the SEC – you are stepping into a pressure cooker. Edit: LOL the Dawgs almost lost to a team that Georgia Southern would have spanked. This points to some serious problems for Smart.
Kirby Smart was a defensive back at Georgia when I was there. It was the late 90s and I remember him having a bunch of interceptions on a team with among other players – Champ Bailey. He was a little guy with a big heart and a big brain. He was a 4 year starter and I remember munson calling his name quite a few times. Teams liked to throw on him because they thought they could and he made them pay. He went on to be an assistant coach at UGA and other schools and ultimately found most of his success as an assistant for Nick Saban. He coached defense for Saban in the NFL and during his epic run at Alabama. I think he has 4 of those giant rings. I hope he can find a way to bring a few to Georgia.
I like Obama. He did a great job as potus. I bet – like Reagan – history will be kind to him. This is a picture of him having fun while eating roasted marshmallows with one of his ears on fire. I cropped the ear smoke too close.
