This is Parappa the rapper. He is a cute hiphop dog created by pop artist Rodney Greenblat and the first rhythm game I remember playing.
Baby titmouse perched on a wire. Tiny kawaii baby birds are my favorites. We get these little gray tufted titmice on our backyard feeders. To think — I used to shoot these cute little critters with my bb gun as a kid. The horror. Illustrator and photoshop.
I love Totoro. It is such a simple and gentle movie about summers and childhood and how a kid’s brain works to process the world with love and imagination.
This is the Fighting Irish mascot with a coat of new paint. I made him look three d with the airbrush in Photoshop.
I love the Beatles. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember. Their movie Yellow Submarine is great. It has a subversive 70s stream of consciousness hippy imagination running wild narrative. The art director was Heinz Edelmann. RIP Mr. Edelmann. I love all of his psychedelic critters and inventions. They are so simple and perfect. All you need is love. And the internet. And spotify.
I listen to them on spotify almost daily. I like their later work the most with its ruthless inventiveness and sarcastic bent. It is hard to believe that 4 kids from England made so much world changing music.
Chickadees are so small and cute. They flit and jump around in a matrix of abbreviated jerks and pops. I am almost certain they are tiny machines. I used to watch them feast at my grandma’s bird feeder.
This is a blue Aventador — a Lamborghini hypercar. I like how sharp and dangerous it looks. It has edges that do beautiful things to the light that strikes them. Cars in 2018 are exquisite rolling works of art. It is also a throwback to the Countache — the first supercar I remember from when I was a kid. In my work there is a dichotomy — I have a whimsical airbrush style of monsters and critters and also a more formal style that focuses on hyper realistic paintings of shiny objects and machines.
This is a purple finch illustration. I used to watch them in the backyard with my grandma.
I love birds. It is amazing that lifeforms have willed themselves into the air via countless years of minute changes by natural selection. Kingfishers have enormous heads and beaks designed to help them catch fish. They look like cartoon humming birds.
I love 90s and early 2000s cartoons. This is my take on Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. It is so odd how such a dark symbol for our own mortality has been appropriated so many times into modern western culture as a comedic figure. Postmodernism you are so silly.
This is a realistic digital painting of a silver Lamborghini Diablo from the side. It is the quintessential 90s supercar. It is fast and impractical and at the time it was a hightech all wheel drive minimalist mid-engine car. By today’s standards it is a very simple, somewhat slow and spartan car.
This is the mascot of Bob’s Big Boy burger joint as a zombie. He is a bit decomposed but he still has an emotional life and a cute smile.
Wolverine is my favorite superhero. He isn’t fast or strong and he doesn’t have magic powers but he is tenacious, mad and tough. I like him because he is always getting his butt kicked by stronger mutants but he never gives up and usually wins.
