This is a digital painting of a blob fish. He is famed for his ugliness. He knows he is ugly and he is okay with that but he still lives in a shell of gloominess. He is upset by how others react to his appearance. He sees his ugliness in their expressions like a mirror. Blob fish are so ugly that little kids cry when they seem him in line at the store. They run away in terror and cling to and behind their parents leg as if they are seeking a safe haven from a gnarly monster. But he is actually sweet and kind hearted.
This fish is named Bubba. He is a big ole fat fud who swims around on the bottom of the lake looking for scraps of food to eat. He is partial to sweets. He likes anything chewy with sugar in it – like giant gummi worms and gummi bears . He is a slow swimming bro who never worries and likes to pick his nose with his fin. Giant green fish like to use their girth and weight to intimidate other fish in the pond. It is a cycle of life type thing. Big fish eat small fish etc.
3 fish looking at a hook with bait. These fish are tepid about this brightly colored delicious worm that is being dangled before them. They are all three hungry – they haven’t had a meal in three days. In their gut they know that something is amiss. One fish has a red eye. The second has a yellow eye and the other one has a green eye. They all three think back on being a kid when their mom told them not to eat food that dangles from the sky. But they are all having trouble heeding her advice. Their tiny fish brain won’t allow them to pass on such an easy and delicious meal. They all know that they should probably go hunting for smaller fish but they are fundamentally lazy.
Tropical Monster Fish swim through warm crystal clear Caribbean waters listening to Bob Marley and thinking about warm memories of the 90s. They love thinking back on long summer days of playing Zelda, exploring dungeons and painting pictures of dragons until late at night. A time in life when there was a warm gentle ocean of time ahead of them and very little to worry about as their parents provided for them and they were in good health. Now from time to time they run into swirling storms and giant dream colored sea monsters who want to eat them and poop them out.
This is a monster fish that swims along the bottom of the pond cleaning up the mess left by other life forms. They know that they are low on the “Great Chain of Being”. It makes them grumpy. Never walk into a brackish pond without rubber boots or one of these monsters will gnaw your toes off. Pike monster fish get their name by coming into starbux and ordering a grande pike every single morning and being grumpy. The strong coffee is where they get their drab coloration.
Starfish wasting syndrome is a disease that attacks about 40 species of sea stars on the East and West coast of the US and Canada. It seems to be related to rises in water temperature. It causes lesions followed by fragmentation and death. It causes mass mortality and scientists have yet to figure out what exactly what causes it. I sometimes feel like I am wasting away when I can’t make new art. For about a three year stretch I had the luxury of making one or two new works a day. It honed the video card in my head to a razor sharp edge. It is the first time in my life I had so much time to put towards getting better. Now I make one a week if I am lucky. ;_; I can feel the pastel colored pixels dissolving into fizzy clouds and floating out of my ears into the void.
