I am fascinated by microbes. The fact that tiny rna injecting critters float around in the air and exist only to sicken and sometimes kill us – is frightening. They are tiny monsters and eventually we will have another massive epidemic like the Spanish flu that sickened 1 in 10 people on the planet. Check out this TED talk about doom – including the dangers of the flu.

One of my favorite movies from the 80s is a musical called “Little Shop of Horrors”. The music was done by “ashman and menken” the team who scored all of the 90s new golden era animations for disney. I always found it kind of disturbing that the plant had such an expressive voice and no eyes. I totally miss summer days as a kid sneaking to watch HBO when my parents were away. Hard to believe what passed for racy back then.
When I was a kid I was obsessed with nuclear war. I remember books from the 60s in my primary school library about the mechanics of global thermonuclear war. It talked about RADs, REMs and how hydrogen icbms had multiple warheads so that the bad guys couldn’t shoot them down with anti-ballistic missiles. The book was so cold, emotionless and harsh. It mirrored the scientific minimalism of the 60s. I’m certain it was written for adults during a time when nuclear war was all too real. But I think it bent my brain. It frightens me that many smart people think humanity is still in a position where it might destroy itself with nuclear weapons. Bomb icon with a transparent background.
