Butterflies evolved to have giant eye dots to confuse and scare away predators. It is no coincidence that they look like giant monster eyes. This is an imaginary butterfly with skateboard graphics on his wings.
Zika virus disease is a mosquito born malady spreading throughout South America. It is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). This virus is running amok in Brazil. Scientists worry that it will quickly cross US borders. It causes a fever and bright red eyes and it lasts about a week. There is some evidence that it causes birth defects in pregnant women. Many scientists in the US are worried that it is going to spread like wildfire and have a terrible effect on the world’s birthrate and possibly damage the human population as a whole.
I miss summertime fire flies. They represent warm memories of being a kid, running around at night and being amazed by simple things. People are the only animal that evolved to have symbolic thought. It gave rise to other traits like language and the ability to make art – both milestones in human evolution. Fireflies represent the wonder of new ideas. They are a framework of wonder that I got as a kid around the time I discovered fireflies. New knowledge and novel concepts are easily the coolest part of being alive. The internet is an infinite ocean of fireflies waiting to be gently captured and groked. It led to adventures in ancient Roman history, 19th Century medicine and post impressionism.
European honeybees are being infected by a fly larva parasite that turns them into zombies. The mother fly lays an egg in a bee’s head and the larva eats the bee’s brain as they grow – causing the bee to walk in circles, abandon their hive and fly around aimlessly at night.
Fireflies use the light in their butt to lure girl fireflies out of hiding. Horny looking firefly cartoon.
Splatted fireflies like to stick around on windows and steps. RIP lightning bug buddy. Entropy is not your friend.
Bees are caffeine fiends. They get a buzz from the caffeine in the leaves of the plants that they pollinate. It makes them shakier busier bees. The study was published in Current Biology.
