I like UGA’s mascot but I don’t like his eyes. They look lifeless and soulless. I fixed them and gave him an attitude.
This is an old Macintosh computer. It represents how prospective employers see me.
I love the hulk. I like that when he rages he can literally jump into space. I can’t imagine how it would be to rage and then realize you are floating through space for eternity – helpless with no hope but to eventually crash into a alien habitable planet. It would be lonely and cold out there – nothing but your brain and endless chattering – spinning helplessly against a backdrop of stars.
This is Popeye as a zoomer. He has tattoos and some chuck taylors. I did this art around the time the USS Lassen bravely challenged waterway rights in the south china sea. Popeye reminds me of my grandpa. He loved Popeye and served on a destroyer in the Pacific in WW2. They were sunk by a Kamikaze and he was in the water for two days.
This is a Chicago police officer. Schools should do a better job of teaching kids how to interact with cops. If you are friendly and respectful cops are some of the best friends you could ever have. The secret is to do what they say and if you have a disagreement – do it in court.
This is a smiling peach illustration from Peach county. He reminds me of going to get peach ice cream with my grandma when it was 100 degrees outside and the humidity was 100 percent. I remember giant white puffy clouds and cold car air conditioners and driving about 30 mile per hour.
This is the mascot of Bob’s Big Boy burger joint as a zombie. He is a bit decomposed but he still has an emotional life and a cute smile.
This is a cartoon illustration of an icky virus cartoon. He has one eye and yellow teeth. If he bites you – you will be sick for many months.
This is Parappa the rapper. He is a cute hiphop dog created by pop artist Rodney Greenblat and the first rhythm game I remember playing.
I love Totoro. It is such a simple and gentle movie about summers and childhood and how a kid’s brain works to process the world with love and imagination.
I love 90s and early 2000s cartoons. This is my take on Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. It is so odd how such a dark symbol for our own mortality has been appropriated so many times into modern western culture as a comedic figure. Postmodernism you are so silly.
I love birds. It is amazing that lifeforms have willed themselves into the air via countless years of minute changes by natural selection. Kingfishers have enormous heads and beaks designed to help them catch fish. The look like cartoons.
Wolverine is my favorite superhero. He isn’t fast or strong and he doesn’t have magic powers but he is tenacious, mad and tough. I like him because he is always getting his butt kicked by stronger mutants but he never gives up and usually wins.
I love Buddha. He was like the original self help guru. He didn’t call on magical deities for happiness – or preach that you had to torture yourself to attain enlightenment – he understood that life is suffering and the key to happiness is to let go of the material things that lead to suffering. This is a statue of fat happy laughing Buddha with birds pooping on him.
I love listening to birds go off at sunrise in spring. It is like they have been beat down by harsh winter weather and they celebrate the return of warmth and greenery. I live next to a college campus and it is inundated with large old growth trees and songbirds. When I walk outside to go to work I am hit by a deep field of cacophonous echoing happy bird sound that is unlike anything I have heard before. It is like something out of a vast swirling dreamscape where birds are sentient machines and their songs have a secret coded meaning.
Kirby Smart was a defensive back at Georgia when I was there. It was the late 90s and I remember him having a bunch of interceptions on a team with among other players – Champ Bailey. He was a little guy with a big heart and a big brain. He was a 4 year starter and I remember munson calling his name quite a few times. Teams liked to throw on him because they thought they could and he made them pay. He went on to be an assistant coach at UGA and other schools and ultimately found most of his success as an assistant for Nick Saban. He coached defense for Saban in the NFL and during his epic run at Alabama. I think he has 4 of those giant rings. I hope he can find a way to bring a few to Georgia.
This is a painting of Henry Rollins. I have been a punk music fan for a long time. I learned about bands like black flag, wire, fugazi and the stooges when I first became interested in nirvana in the 90s. Punk is about rebellion and anger. It is cool when it isn’t about hatred. Rollins has been on Rogan’s podcast like two times now and he is a smart and interesting guy. It is cool how the web lets you hear how amazing people think and process the world live.
This is deadpool with snazzy unicorn bedroom slippers. I always found it ironic that the most hated artist in comic book history also created the coolest superhero ever. He is smart and funny and self aware and he makes fun of comics and all of the characters, tropes, ideas and gimmics in them.
This is a blue Aventador – a Lamborghini hypercar. I like how sharp and dangerous it looks. It has edges that do beautiful things to the light that strikes them. Cars in 2018 are exquisite rolling works of art. It is also a throwback to the Countache – the first supercar I remember from when I was a kid. In my work there is a dichotomy – I have a whimsical airbrush style of monsters and critters and also a more formal style that focuses on hyper realistic paintings of shiny objects and machines.
This is an illustration of a cute gray kitty with a bell collar around his neck. I love kitties. They are domesticated but they have a wild streak inside them. It is cool to watch their predator instincts kick in when they are hunting a tiny bug or lizard. They go into a hyper cute ninja mode that is a remnant of their lion ancestors. Bells are like a kitty alarm system to protect our songbird buddies from being eaten. This is one of my favorite animals.
